India was born in Richmond, Indiana. She graduated from Ball State University as both artist and educator however her career as an artist began much earlier in life.
Even as a child her works were alive and brilliant with color. As time and life experiences grew larger, India began to analyze and compare her work with other artists. Remembering the love she had for her warm surroundings, she began to paint and create from childhood memories. This is where her work found its home and admits is where she still must paint from today.
Color and texture are an integral part of her compositions. Strong comparisons of India's work can also be made to the late Romare Bearden and Jacob Lawence. Her desire for the viewer to feel and see the depth of her emotional history and experience the strong personalities in her life lead her into this unique style. A deep love of her community and family drives India to create art that is both common and uncommon. It is her honesty that drives the message into the hearts of the viewers.
"What I search for in my paintings is my personal truth. When I paint what I feel, I believe in it. My soul embraces it from my own reality. Life forces me to be honest with my art and to find that unique balance of what I know to be true. Painting secures my knowledge of my truth. It is that point and that point alone when I can maintain balance with in my world. Seeing the truth in my inner self - everything just falls into place."
