ARTIST STATEMENT: My artistic goal over the last several years has been an attempt to develop an investigative process: to research and explore styles and disciplines through the creative process itself and through art history.
Through this investigative search, the gathering of information or visual facts is done openly and artistic exposure is at a maximum state. New ideas call for additional artistic needs and development. Through this open format, this process has enabled me to examine new avenues of imagery and meaning. by selecting a variety of data and visual facts, I compile and laminate levels of this gathered information, generating a stronger and more powerful image.
Dennis Nechvatal's work has been exhibited in Galleries and Museums throughout the United States for over twenty years. His work has been placed into many different schools of art during his career, from Chicago Imagist and Post-Expressionist, as was evident in his large-scale painting for his mid-career retrospective at the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts, to the Neo Expressionistic landscapes of today.
The one definition that can be placed on him is as a true alchemist taking nothing and creating gold. Very few artists can change their style during their careers and still inspire the viewer, Dennis has been able to do just that. Dennis' work is included in the collections of The Art Institute of Chicago, Milwaukee Art Museum, Milwaukee, WI, and the Madison Art Center, Madison, WI.
